Update on a previously reviewed item—Problems with

I wrote the review above that reported that the top cap had spontaneously come unscrewed several times. That was handled by using a dab of thread-locker on it, which is what the manufacturer should have done.

However, NOW the old problem of the sections not locking out, which wrote about above having had happen from a third-party purchased version after about 2 years. That turned out to be the little rubber washer or O-ring holding the locking mechanism pieces together fraying and stretching out, before finally breaking completely.

This time, with one purchased directly FROM NEXTORCH, the same issue with one or more of the sections failing to lock out intermittently, is occurring with the one I carry every day. I only extend it several times maybe once per week, to practice technique with it, and this began happening about a month ago. At first, it was infrequent, but now it occurs probably once every three times. I’ve included a photo of the failure that is now occurring.

The store owner/manufacturer mentioned in my previous review that these devices have a 10-year warranty. I guess it’s time to test that theory out.

Again, if not for these failures, these would be a great item. There is nothing else out there like it, and the metal parts they contain are strong. It’s just that the mechanical aspects of the NEXTORCH 39″ NEX Quicker Duty Riot Baton are proving to be multiple points of failure. That is NOT something you want in an item that needs to work correctly when your safety and potentially life depends on it.

A great item . . . in theory, but a couple of issu

I bought two of these to carry with me while out on walks for personal protection (one as a primary and one as a spare), and they are great items . . . in theory. The only problem, and it is a major one, is that the one I am carrying has this annoying tendency for both the top-cap to unscrew, and the release button set into the top of the top cap to start unscrewing. The top-cap has come off spontaneously several times since I received it about two weeks ago, unscrewing completely and falling off along with the long, thin rod that goes down into the shaft to lock the sections.

Yesterday, not only did the top-cap come off, but also the little, scalloped locking button completely unscrewed from inside the top-cap, fell off, and the small spring that is under it also came out, bouncing around on the ground. Fortunately, I was able to find both pieces and put them back in the top-cap, which I yet again screwed back onto the top of the shaft.

I had one of these before for several years that ended up having the little washers that connect the locking mechanism pieces together break, but I got that from a third-party supplier that I think was selling used ones, but that one lasted for about two years before it broke.

This new issue, with ones I purchased directly from this company, is problematic, because if the top-cap or the locking button came apart when I was using it to defend myself against a dog or something, that would be a big disaster.

I am not sure if this is just an issue with that one, or if it is a problem with both of the NexTorch 39" NEX Quicker Duty batons that I have, but it can't keep happening or it looks really bad for the quality control of this item.

Hi BAB, We are very sorry to hear this news. We don't know what the problem was; theoretically, it shouldn't have this issue, as the Baton's tail cap shouldn't detach so easily. Our products come with a 10-year warranty. If you encounter any problems during use, please feel free to contact us. This will help us improve our product.
