I have received the ND30 and have conducted testing for over two months. I have found that the unit is rugged and well built. The ND30 mimics the operation of a traditional explosive distraction device so it is very easy to integrate. The fact that it is light-weight and does not contain any explosive material means it can be carried every day without fear of accidents or the hassle of keeping it locked up in accordance with federal standards. The programming feature is easy to understand and use. The fact that the unit is USB rechargeable is paramount. This feature will prevent the need for additional batteries and make it easy to charge habitually for consistent readiness. In testing other available products, I found them to be heavy, use a proprietary charging system, and require two hands or a second operator to deploy.
The focus of my training is on the school resource officer. This comes with a unique set of challenges. The officer will be responding to threats alone. This is where the ND30 shines. The officer must keep the student’s safety in mind at all times. This makes the ND30 perfect for this role. The fact that the ND30 can fit the role of a traditional distraction device without the issue of explosion, fire and injury. Even if the unit were to be lost or taken by an unauthorized user the backlash would be minimal. The fact that the ND30 could be used safely in small spaces, buses, and laboratory settings makes it superior to other traditional devices.
